High Street Nos 69 - 71

Three members of the Munt family occupied holdings for their market gardening business on the north and south sides of the High Street, right in its centre, as shown on the map. 538 was owned by James Munt widower, age 73; 539 by Thomas Munt, age 33. 484, the site which is now shops, by James Munt, age 50. It is pure speculation but this may been the main produce centre suggesting a pick-your-own approach? The two plots on the north are numbers 539, 538. 537 is the White Hart site to the east, and Lynton House (535) is to the east of this. On the south, it was the plot which is now the shops. The family also rented part of the Littleworth 15.5 acre site owned by Mrs Bird, see record 2702.
James Munt senior, also owned and occupied the 20¾ acre Bullsdown, numbered 465 and shaded blue. This was the same 73 year old James Munt
who occupied plot 538 north of the High Street and referred to above. Surely, Bullsdown would have been used for grazing animals.
