Wheatley's sanitation problems in 1897 and 1900

Archive Notes:

Wheatley's sanitation problems in 1897 and Inspector of Nuisance reports 1882-1897.

At the disposal end of the problem, much foul drainage was flowing into the culverted scheme. This matter was brought to a head in 1900 when, after the Thames Conservancy Board had objected, it was agreed to instal a sewerage scheme at the cost os some £2500 financed by a loan which Wheatley Urban District Council had arranged.

The current (2020) drainage map of the east end of the High Street shows that this foul drainage was run in the line of the culverted High Street and also (presumably later) in the old line of the stream.
