Wheatley Cricket Club 1924
Wheatley Cricket Team were the semi-finalists in Division II of the Oxfordshire League in 1924. They played at the time on the land off Littleworth Road. When it become the Secondary Modern School in 1950, a pitch was found south of the railway line, one field removed to the west from Jackie's Lane. Later the club moved to Holton.
Batting stars mentioned in the 1924 press were Clements, Munt and Surman. John Shepherd bowler took 7 wickets for 34 runs, and Munt 2 for 11 runs in 7 overs, Cooper 5 for 47 and Banwell 3 for 9. In a league table of scores above 50, published in July 1924, A Munt and H D Cooper feature above halfway down having their best score at 58. George Gould was the secretary and they had benefited by £11 17s 6d in 1925 from a whist drive. Press reports also mentioned W Hilsdon, Mrs H Chapman, P Bates, Mr Court, R Brandum and A Bathard who provided the music, Mr Gostick who gave a box of chocolates, and Mrs Cripps.
