Howe Close - Howe Barns
Cows from Percy Trinder's Hill Farm crossing Ladder Hill from the east to the west for milking. From 1924-1953 Percy Trinder was tenant farmer of Wheatley Hill Farm. Howe Close was built on the site of the barns and yard.
See 1719 for more details of Wheatley Hill Farm
Howe Close was developed (not precisely on or even very near to the Howe Barns) in 1976, on the site of an earlier claypit excavation (shown on a geologocal map from 1989) due west of the larger Ltttleworth Clay Pit. A photograph takem im June 2024 from the left of 19 Howe Close (In the left spur at the end of Howe Close) showing the way that the land falls away. Also (from the same position) the steep steps up onto The Howe.
A borehole (0293), adjacent to 19 Howe Close, that drilled through 12 m of clay then hit Wheatley Limestone.
