Western family

Archive Notes:

The recollections, for the period of the 1930s until 1947, of Joan Western nee Greasley are shown attached prefaced by a brief family tree. Neither family was previously identified in the Wheatley archive and, thus, not apparently related to any other Wheatley resident. Limited family trees of the Western and Greasley families have been added to the genealogical database.

The house that they moved into in the High Street was described as being opposite Harris Stores. Research by the archive team, based on the first photo, shows that this was definitely taken (looking east) in the garden of No. 84 High Street. This is confirmed by the current and 'original' wall, with a rounded top (and being almost able to identify stones) marks the boundary to their neighbour to the east. The building behind the two girls is the original extension to Greystones, 88 High Street, and is identified by its roof which remains unchanged in 2025.
