96 High Street, Kings Cottage

Archive Notes:

Date built not known. At one time called 'Tankards'. Small cottage facing east. Old wall facing front door has a brick chimney & remains of an open fire. Current name believed to be a 'foil' to the adjacent Cromwell Cottage.

Colonel Toye (see also archive number 2430) lived here before moving to Farm Close Lane, and decided to call this Kings Cottage just so that the monarchy was recognised alongside Cromwell House.

There is no number 98 High Street.
