68-78 High Street - parade of shops
2 photos taken in 1985 of the shops and new toilets and one in 1998 of the shops. Also one in 2000 when the Chinese takeaway was Evagreen and to its right was Ian James Bricknell, hair studio, also shown internally in 1977 in the Jubilee booklet and in 1988 from the Centenary booklet. Also in this booklet were The Food and Wine Shop at 66 High Street, Launderama at 68 High Street, Crick Butchers at 70 High Street, Ian James (hairdresser), Wheatley Estates at 74 High Street (founded by E P Messenger in 1973 and later acquired by Percy Blake and Mary Blake), and Cornfield Bakery at 76 High Street (also picture from 1977 booklet). In 2018, Crick butcher still trades under this name, although the ownership has changed - Cricks history is shown on a separate file.
In 1910, this had been the site of James Munt's house and large garden.
Two files on the Crick Family and the history of the butcher's shop.
