An article in the Oxford Journal on 26 December 1891 mentions an entertainment given at the Merry Bells by the scholars of Wheatley schools. it mentions Fred Sheldon, Robert Sheldon, Henry Sheldon, Alfred Wilmshurst, Herbert Wilmshurst, Arthur Fuller, Walter Field, Arthur Chapman, Frank Wood and Rees Leyshon.

An article in the Oxford Journal on 6 January 1894 reported a concert on 3 January in the schoolroom. It mentions Augustus Tyndale, Miss Tyndale Biscoe, Ernest Sheldon, Robert Sheldon, Miss Christian, Harry Sheldon and Mr Leyshon.

Another article in the same paper on 11 February 1899 refers to a prize-giving and annual entertainment with Miss Christian clearly driving this. Attendance at the school had averaged 138, with Julia Life, Nora Gunn, Fred Allum, W E Stanley, Harry Ray, William Avery, Edgar Munt, Sophie East, May Shirley and Annie Munt amongst the most regular attendees. Mr and Mrs Leyshon were complemented on the excellent condition of the school. The entertainment was dominated by singing.
