Geology of Wheatley and its application

Geology of Wheatley and its application. A talk given by Nigel Banks, geologist and Michael Heaton, archivist to the Wheatley Society on 18 July 2024 at the Merry Bells.
Regarding the fault plane (see separate image) along Kiln Lane, the brickworks reportedly went down 20 ft below the surface. The brickworks may have been located in the lowest part of the Kimmeridge + Ampthill Clay and possibly they hit the top of the limestone at 20 ft. So the throw on the fault was, at a minimum, 50+20=70 ft., maximum 100 ft or 30 m. #
Another talk by Nigel Banks 'Wheatley’s Geology: Academic controversy but Industrial Value' on 15 April 2025 to a local geology group.
